Four-G and three-G internet is off

ExclusiveDhaka: The government has shut down 4G and 3G mobile internet services for 24 hours amid student protests demanding safer roads. The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) issued the directive on Saturday evening. Then around 7.30 pm, the customers started suffering from mobile internet usage. Talking to BTRC and mobile phone operators later, it was confirmed that the 4G and 3G internet services would be shut down.

When asked, the acting chairman of BTRC Zahurul Haque told Prothom Alo that many times the concerned department of BTRC has to implement many instructions in the decision of high level government. Networking in some places can be a problem to get mobile internet, it is not completely off.

However, mobile phone operators have not officially agreed to comment on the matter. However, multiple sources connected to the mobile internet service have confirmed the closure of 4G and 3G services.

Earlier, the police had recommended shutting down 4G and 3G internet services to curb the student movement. According to police, the students are using Facebook to promote the movement. Four-G is the fourth generation mobile phone technology. Its previous generation technology is 3G and 2G. The speed of data flow on the internet is low in 2G.
